When most people go away on their luxurious Caribbean vacation, they don’t have a care in the world.
But not me.
As a huge fan of pretty much all sports, including NFL, NHL and NBA, I’m usually left disappointed on my vacation when I realize that the sports fan inside of me must go on vacation as well. Let’s be honest: winter, a.k.a. vacation season, is the worst time of the year for any sports fan.
Traveling in January means I always seem to miss critical NFL playoff clashes. When I grab a flight to the Caribbean in February, I scout out every television on the resort to try and catch the Super Bowl, usually with no prevail. The push for the NBA and NHL playoffs heats up in the month of March and I’m suffering from a serious case of FOMO while I’m away from home and the playoff seeds are shuffling around. When the hockey and basketball playoffs finally do take place in the months of April, May and June, my spring travels often diverge with my real desire: to just watch a do-or-die Game 7.
After years of neglecting my inner sports fanatic to ditch the wintery weather, I had almost lost hope that I could witness a game-winning field goal or a buzzer beater or a Stanley Cup-winning goal – a single moment in sporting history – while in the tropics.
And then I stumbled across the Sports Event Guarantee™ by Royalton. I booked my trip to Royalton Suites Cancun last week and I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered that the SCORE Sports Bar & Lounge aired NHL and NBA games every night, so I could keep up with the ever-changing playoff race. My eyes were glued to the TV screen to witness the Nashville Predators capture the Central division title against the Chicago Blackhawks. The next day, I watched the Golden State Warriors destroy the LA Clippers, once again clinching the number one seed in the Western Conference.
When I inquired at the bar about why other resorts weren’t doing this, the bartender blinked a few times and then smirked, simply responding with, “All Royalton resorts air these games.”
It was like I had found the air to breathe again – air that I could use to pump back up my deflated sports fan identity. I spent every evening during my trip at SCORE Sports Bar & Lounge feeling like I had never missed a beat. I wasn’t out of the loop, I wasn’t left feeling frustrated at missing crazy upsets or mind-blowing plays, and I wasn’t sacrificing part of my personality to go on vacation.
Royalton Suites Cancun brought the comfort and ease of feeling like I was a part of something bigger than myself. As far as I’m concerned, Royalton is the only resort brand that seems to care about those sport sightseers suffering in silence. Now we, like every other vacationer, can enjoy paradise without a care in the world.
